10 Ways to Grow your Podcast in 2021
1. Outreach
Follow like-minded podcast hosts, reach out to them. Keep like-minded people around you to grow and share the luck. Podcasting can be competitive but you can also grow together. Be nice and they'll return the favor.
2. Be part of a subreddit on Reddit
There are loads of subreddits on reddit.com. Any niche you can imagine has its own page. Join one and be an active member of the community. Never spam. I repeat, never spam. Offer quality input, be a valuable member and you can eventually funnel down the attention to your podcast.
3. Create video marketing snippets
This is crucial if you have an audio-only podcast. Did you know that videos generate 1200% more shares on social media than both images and text, combined. You're definitely missing out if you don't market your episodes by video. Just create short videos of highlights of your podcast episodes and link the full episode in the comments. There are a lot of tools that let you create awesome-looking videos for your podcasts. I highly suggest checking out vokal.co, they have a free plan available which is great to get you started.
4. Join Facebook groups
Facebook is the biggest social media platform so you're insane if you're not on it. Join Facebook groups for podcasters and share your latest podcast episodes in it. Don't forget to NOT spam. Offer quality responses and questions.
5. Create Facebook and Instagram ads
If you have some money to spend on marketing I highly suggest starting on Facebook and Instagram. You can target a very specific audience on these platforms. Create a nice video like I mentioned in step 3 and launch your ad. I suggest linking to a webpage where people can sign up to a form so you can capture their email addresses.
6. Do collabs with similar podcasts
If you followed tip number 1 and built a relationship you can start collaborating with others. This is always a win-win situation since audiences from both podcasts get introduced to the other. Share the love and work together, there's enough in this podcast landscape for us all.
7. Make a blog for your podcast
Create a free blog on blogger.com or wordpress.com and create posts with subjects that you actually talk about in your podcasts. People on Google can search for topics and find your blog that way. Funnel the traffic that you get to your blog from Google to your podcast. This is a must because it is 100% free. It takes a while before you rank on Google but once you do, you gain free traffic for a long time.
8. Get active on Social Media
You should be building your social media presence early on. No worries if you haven't, it's never too late. Just create an account on all social media platforms that you can find. Link back to your blog or podcast on all of them. When you create and launched a new podcast episode you post it on all platforms. The goal is to create a huge spiderweb of links, linking back to your podcast and/or blog.
9. Reach out to influential figures within your topic
All topics or niches have influential figures. Seek them out and reach out to them. It can be as easy as sending them an email or replying to their recent tweets. Get close to them and offer quality. Start sharing about your podcast once you built a relationship with them. Please do NOT spam them or blast them with your podcast. They don't know you. Build a relationship before you bother them.
10. Build an email list
Build an email list by capturing and saving the email addresses of all your listeners. This is crucial because you want to have a direct connection with them. No intermediary is required, it's 2021 by the way.
The most important reason why you should have a mailing list is that you can notify your listeners when new episodes are released. Or if there are major changes in the future. Imagine being suspended from a platform where most of your users are on. That would be horrible. If you had an email list you could notify them and send them the latest episodes directly to their mailbox.
I highly suggest checking out mailerlite.com or mailchimp.com if you would like to get started. They are both beginner-friendly so don't let that hold you back.
